May – Was it Really That Bad?

As the month winds down, I’m looking to the future and trying to figure out what’s next.  Part of planning that, however, is looking behind me.  If you were to ask me how the month of May was, I’d tell you that it was awful.  Horrible.  But was it really that bad?

At the beginning of the month, I joined a local CrossFit gym.  It’s been amazing!  It’s so much fun getting to spend several days a week working out with some awesome ladies (it’s a gym just for women) and I’ve also gotten the opportunity to try some things I’d never have considered trying before! (Can you say “box jumps”?!)  I’ve also made some great improvements in strength, each week I’m adding a bit more weight to the barbells!

The weather has been great this month as well, which means I got to spend some time doing some hiking with my favorite people.

And let’s not forget our first trip to the beach this year!

Then, we got to end the month with an amazing camping trip, filled with family, fishing, boating, kayaking and hiking!  We seriously had so much fun! (I’ll be posting a recap with photos soon)

With so many amazing things that I got to experience this month, why would I say it’s bad?  My half marathon.  I’m sure by now you’ve read about it, either here or on Instagram, so I won’t recap it.  But a week later, I’m still frustrated by it, and I think that’s tainting my view of things.  Which needs to stop.  My month has been great! I’ve had fun experiences with my family, I’m still able to run, and I have plenty of open doors on the horizon.  So what’s next?  I’m still not sure, but I’m not going to let one bad day effect my decision!

  1. Sounds like May was pretty amazing for you! Isn’t it nice to see strength gains? May was our 3rd wettest in Chicago history but it really warmed up and felt like summer so I’ll take it!

    1. It is so great to see those strength gains! And that sounds like a crazy amount of rain in your area, you must really be enjoying that summer weather!

    1. It is tons of fun! And I was surprised at how much I like box jumps, since I was scared of them at first!

  2. I am sorry to hear about your race. Many times races do not go how we want them to go. We just need a little pity party and then we can move on and let it go. I understand the disappointment but there is nothing we can do about it once it is over.

  3. You are right, don’t let one race put a damper on your entire month. Looks like you had a great month and I bet your half marathon wasn’t even that bad. I have to check and see if I follow you on Instagram

  4. Sounds like May was a good month. We all have races that aren’t what we want, but once you realize that it’s just going to happen sometimes, it’s easier when it happens again. Hope June is awesome for you.

    1. You’re right, I think it’s easier to deal with when you know sometimes bad races just happen!

  5. That’s awesome that your box is just for ladies! I didn’t even know there was such a thing in CrossFit, which I love by the way. Been CrossFitting for about 5-6 years now and it’s definitely been one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. 🙂

    Sounds like you had a fantastic month! I’m sorry the race didn’t work out the way you wanted it to. That’s always a bummer but that’s also the beauty of running – you never know what you’re going to get! lol. Seriously, it’s those tough days/runs that make us reflect and we come out stronger on the other side. 🙂

    1. It’s not officially affiliated with CrossFit, which is probably why they can get away with it =)
